The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) issued by the European Union will come into effect on 25th May 2018.
The regulations change how companies can use and process the personal data of people the business interacts with (e.g. website visitors or paying customers) where those individuals reside within countries within the European Union.
Despite the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union, on 29th March 2019, businesses within the United Kingdom are still subject to GDPR. It is highly likely that GDPR will be brought into United Kingdom law, on or before the 29th March 2019, as part of legislation the UK Government is passing into law as part of the EU withdrawal process.
The GDPR represents a 'best practice' for data storage and processing and many businesses outside of the EU are choosing to implement the regulations even if they are not affected.
The ShopWired platform will be compliant with the GDPR when it takes effect on the 25th May.
The set of help guides in this topic aim to give guidance on how the GDPR affect your business in relation to it's use of the ShopWired platform. They do not represent legal advice and you are advised to consult a legal professional to ensure that your own business is compliant with GDPR.
The set of help guides do not cover other aspects of your business that will come under the GDPR such as processing or storage of your customers' data on computers or other database systems.
Please take time to read our Published Policy on GDPR which is available at http://policies.shopwired.co.uk/blog/gdpr.
Does the GDPR require personal data of EU residents to be stored within the European Union?
No. The GDPR only requires that if personal data of EU residents is transported outside of the EU then it must be adequately protected. This is already a requirement under existing EU and it's member state laws.
Will ShopWired transfer data outside of the European Union?
No. Personal data of ShopWired's users' customers (and its users themselves) is stored within data centres that reside within the European Union by ShopWired International Limited, a company registered in England and Wales.
