Changing the DNS settings with common domain name providers

Below are some instructions on how to change the DNS settings on your domain name with some common domain name providers.

Warning!

The instructions below are intended as a guide only.

Please make sure that you only have 1 A record for '@' (or blank) and 1 CNAME record for 'www'. If you have an A record for 'www' you should delete it.


GoDaddy

Step 1. Login to your GoDaddy account and click the 'domains' button.

Step 2. Click the 'manage dns' button next to the domain that you want to change the DNS for.

Step 3. If there is an existing A (Host) record for @ then click to edit the record. If there is no existing record then go to step 7.

Step 4. Make sure the host is set to @ and enter the number 54.217.206.76 in the 'points to' field. Then click the 'finish'.

Step 5. If there is an existing CNAME (Alias) record with the Host set as www then click to edit it. If there is no existing record then go to step 7.

Step 6. Make sure the 'host' is set to www and enter ecommercedns.uk in the 'points to' field. Then click 'finish'.

If you've now got a CNAME record pointing to ecommercedns.uk and an A record pointing to 54.217.206.76 you have completed the settings. If you need to create a new CNAME or A record then continue at step 7 below.

Step 7. Click the 'add record' link at the bottom of the page.

Step 8. Depending on what type of record you have to create, either an 'A' or 'CNAME' record, select this from the drop down.

Step 9. If creating an A record enter the 'host' as @ and the 'points to' field as 54.217.206.76 then click 'save'.

Step 10. If creating a CNAME record enter the 'host' as www and ecommercedns.uk in the 'points to' field. Then click 'save'.

Step 11. Click the add record button and select the type of record as TXT

Step 12. Enter the 'host' as @ and the TXT Value as

v=spf1 include:spf.mandrillapp.com ?all

Click 'save'.

Step 13. Click to add another TXT record and then enter the 'host' as

mandrill._domainkey

and the TXT Value as

v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQCrLHiExVd55zd/IQ/J/mRwSRMAocV/hMB3jXwaHH36d9NaVynQFYV8NaWi69c1veUtRzGt7yAioXqLj7Z4TeEUoOLgrKsn8YnckGs9i3B3tVFB+Ch/4mPhXWiNfNdynHWBcPcbJ8kjEQ2U8y78dHZj1YeRXXVvWob2OaKynO8/lQIDAQAB;

Click the 'save' button.


123-Reg

Step 1. Login to your 123 reg account and select the domain you want to change the DNS for from the drop down list and click the 'manage' button.

Step 2. Click the 'manage DNS' link.

Step 3. Click the 'advanced DNS editor' link.

Step 4. If there is an existing record of type A for hostname @ then you can click the pencil (edit) icon next to it.

The A record needs to have a 'dns entry' of @ with the destination/target set to 54.217.206.76.

If you've edited an existing record then click the 'tick' icon. If you've added a new record then click the 'add' button.

Step 5. If there is an existing record of type CNAME for hostname www then click the pencil (edit) icon next to it. You should only edit an existing record for www if it has a type of 'cname'. If it has a type of A then you should delete it by clicking the rubbish bin icon, and add a new record instead.

The CNAME record needs to have a 'dns entry' of www with the destination/target set to ecommercedns.uk.

If you've edited an existing record then click the 'tick' icon. If you've added a new record then click the 'add' button.

Step 6. Go to add a new record. This should be a TXT record with a 'hostname' of

mandrill._domainkey

and 'destination/target' of

v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQCrLHiExVd55zd/IQ/J/mRwSRMAocV/hMB3jXwaHH36d9NaVynQFYV8NaWi69c1veUtRzGt7yAioXqLj7Z4TeEUoOLgrKsn8YnckGs9i3B3tVFB+Ch/4mPhXWiNfNdynHWBcPcbJ8kjEQ2U8y78dHZj1YeRXXVvWob2OaKynO8/lQIDAQAB;

The 'type' should be selected as 'TXT'.

Step 7. Go to add a new record. This should be a TXT record with a 'hostname' of

@

and 'destination/target' of

v=spf1 include:spf.mandrillapp.com ?all

The 'type' should be selected as 'TXT'.


Fasthosts/UKReg

Step 1. Login to your Fasthosts/UKReg account and select 'domain' and then 'manage domains' from the top menu.

Step 2. Locate the domain you want to change the DNS for and click the DNS icon.

Step 3. If there is an existing A record with 'host name' blank then click to edit it, or click the 'add a record' button to create a new record.

Step 4. When creating/editing the A record make sure the 'host name' field is blank and the IP Address is set to 54.217.206.76. Then click the 'save' button.

Step 5. If there is an existing CNAME record for www then click to edit it, or click the 'add CNAME record' button.

Step 6. Enter the 'host name' as www and the 'points to' to ecommercedns.uk. Then click the 'save' button.

Step 7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click to add a new TXT record.

Step 8. Enter the details shown below:

i) The 'host name' is mandrill._domainkey
ii) The 'value' is

Click 'save'.

Step 9. Click to add another TXT record

Enter the detailsshown below:

i) The 'host name' should be left blank
ii) The value should be v=spf1 include:spf.mandrillapp.com ?all

Click 'save'.


Namesco

Step 1. Login to your Namesco account and click 'control panel'.

Step 2. Click 'DNS Administration' on the left menu and then the domain name that you would like to change the DNS for.

Step 3. If there is an existing 'host name' which is blank then make sure the 'type' is selected as A and then enter the 'result' as 54.217.206.76. If there is an existing 'host name' for www then make sure the 'type' is selected as CNAME and then enter the 'result' as ecommercedns.uk.

Step 4. You need to create 2 more records with the type TXT.

The first record should have a 'hostname' of

mandrill._domainkey

with a 'result' of

v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQCrLHiExVd55zd/IQ/J/mRwSRMAocV/hMB3jXwaHH36d9NaVynQFYV8NaWi69c1veUtRzGt7yAioXqLj7Z4TeEUoOLgrKsn8YnckGs9i3B3tVFB+Ch/4mPhXWiNfNdynHWBcPcbJ8kjEQ2U8y78dHZj1YeRXXVvWob2OaKynO8/lQIDAQAB;

The second record should have a 'hostname' that is blank with a result of

v=spf1 include:spf.mandrillapp.com ?all


Step 4. Click the 'save' button at the bottom of the page.


1and1

Step 1. Login to your 1and1 account and click the 'manage domains' button.

Step 2. Find the domain name you would like to change the DNS for and then click the 'edit DNS settings' link.

Step 3. Enter the 'ipv4 address' as 54.217.206.76. (You may need to select 'other IP address' at the top of this section). Click to save your changes.

Step 4. On 1and1 the www version of your domain name will be setup as a subdomain so you'll need to click the 'manage subdomains' link. If a subdomain for your www.yourdomainname.com does not exist then you will need to create one.

Step 5. Click the 'edit dns settings' link for the subdomain.

Step 6. Select 'CNAME' from the IP address selection and then enter the 'alias' as ecommercedns.uk. You may need to tick the 'I am aware and accept that all current DNS settings, e-mail address and redirects will be disabled' box. Then click the 'save' button.

Step 7. You need to create 2 additional DNS records on the domain name known as TXT records.

Scroll to the bottom of the page to the 'txt and srv records' section.

Click to add a new record.

Step 8. Enter the details shown below:

i) 'type' as TXT
ii) 'prefix' as mandrill._domainkey
iii) 'value' as

v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQCrLHiExVd55zd/IQ/J/mRwSRMAocV/hMB3jXwaHH36d9NaVynQFYV8NaWi69c1veUtRzGt7yAioXqLj7Z4TeEUoOLgrKsn8YnckGs9i3B3tVFB+Ch/4mPhXWiNfNdynHWBcPcbJ8kjEQ2U8y78dHZj1YeRXXVvWob2OaKynO8/lQIDAQAB;

Click the 'add' button when done.

Step 9. Click to add another TXT record and enter the details shown below

i) 'type' as TXT
ii) 'prefix' - leave this blank
iii) 'value' as v=spf1 include:spf.mandrillapp.com ?all

Click to 'add' this record.

Step 10. Be sure to save your changes.


UK2.net

Step 1. Login to your uk2.net account and then click the domain name that you would like to change the DNS for.

Step 2. Click the 'DNS' link at the top of the page.

Step 3. If there is an existing A (Host) record for your domain name then click the pencil icon next to it. Alternatively click the 'add new a record' button.

Step 4. The A record you are creating/editing should have a host showing your domain name. For 'points to' enter 54.217.206.76. Change the TTL to 5 Minutes. Then click the 'save' button.

Step 5. If there is an existing CNAME record for your www.yourdomainname.com then click the edit it (by clicking the pencil icon). If a record doesn't currently existing then click the 'add new CNAME record' button.

6. Make sure the 'name' for the record is entered as www.yourdomainname.com. Enter ecommercedns.uk in the 'points to' field and change the TTL to 1 Minute. Then click the 'save' button.

7. Scroll down the page to the 'txt records' section.

Click the button to add a new txt record.

8. Enter the details shown below:

i) The 'name' is mandrill._domainkey
ii) The 'value' is

v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQCrLHiExVd55zd/IQ/J/mRwSRMAocV/hMB3jXwaHH36d9NaVynQFYV8NaWi69c1veUtRzGt7yAioXqLj7Z4TeEUoOLgrKsn8YnckGs9i3B3tVFB+Ch/4mPhXWiNfNdynHWBcPcbJ8kjEQ2U8y78dHZj1YeRXXVvWob2OaKynO8/lQIDAQAB;

iii) Select the 'ttl' as 5 minutes

Click 'save'.

9. Click to add another TXT record.

Enter the details shown below:

i) The 'name' should be @
ii) The 'value' should be v=spf1 include:spf.mandrillapp.com ?all
iii) The 'ttl' should be 5 minutes

Click 'save'.


LCN

Step 1. Login to your LCN account and click 'domains'.

Step 2. Click the 'manage' link for the domain name that you want to change the DNS records for.

Step 3. Click the 'edit dns settings' link .

Step 4. Scroll to the A Records section. If there is an existing A (Host) record for @ then click to edit the record.

If there is no existing record then go to step 5.

Enter the new IP address as 54.217.206.76.

Click the 'update a record' button.

Skip to step 6.

Step 5. Ignore this step if you have completed step 4 successfully.

Click the 'add a new a record' button.

On the next page, enter the details as shown in the screenshot below and click the 'add a record' button.

The 'hostname' value is entered as @.

The 'IP address' value is entered as 54.217.206.76.

Step 6. If there is an existing A record for www (as shown in the screenshot below) then tick the box beside the record and click the 'delete a records' button.

Step 7. Scroll to the CNAME Records section.

If there is an existing CNAME record with the hostname set as www then click to edit it.

Alternatively click the 'add a name record' button.

On the next page, enter the details as shown in the screenshot below and click the 'add cname record' button.

The 'alias' value is entered as www.

The 'hostname' value is entered as ecommercedns.uk.

Step 8. Scroll to the TXT Records section.

Click the 'add a txt record' button.

On the next page, enter the details as shown in the screenshot below and click the 'add txt record' button.

The 'name' value is entered as mandrill._domainkey.

The 'data' value is entered as shown below.

Step 9. Still in the TXT Records section, locate your domain name's SPF record. It will look something like the example below.

Click to edit the record.

You now need to insert include:spf.mandrillapp.com at the start of the data value, as shown in the example below.

Click the 'update txt record' button.
